AMBASSADOR EIZENSTAT DELIVERS EULOGY AT THE MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR PRESIDENT JIMMY CARTER
For Immediate Release
Washington, DC - January 9, 2024 L. M. Levie, Chairman of American Industrial Acquisition Corporation (AIAC), issued the following statement following the memorial service of President Jimmy Carter at the National Cathedral in Washington D.C.:
"We wish to sincerely thank our cherished friend Stuart Eizenstat for eloquently expressing the heartfelt sentiments of millions around the world who were inspired by the life and work of President Jimmy Carter. In his stirring eulogy today at the National Cathedral, Ambassador Eizenstat recounted the remarkable talents and enduring accomplishments of his mentor and friend, Jimmy Carter, for whom he ably served as gubernatorial and presidential campaign advisor and then as White House Chief Domestic Policy Advisor.”
Ambassador Eizenstat described President Carter as a true Renaissance Man, possessing a rare combination of professional skills, pursuits and roles as “farmer, businessman, nuclear engineer, naval submarine officer, wood worker, painter, fly fisherman, music lover, poet, author, painter, poet, Sunday School teacher, creator of the Carter Center, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, and Nobel Peace Prize Winner.” Ambassador Eizenstat noted, “Behind that toothy smile, was a man of steel determination, discipline and self-confidence.” He then enumerated President Carter’s consequential diplomatic, environmental, defense, de-regulatory efforts, civil rights, education, and economic achievements, which positively impacted America for generations following his White House years.
In closing, Ambassador Eizenstat affectionately quipped, “just as he was free with sometimes unsolicited advice for his presidential successors, the Lord of all Creation should be ready for Jimmy’s recommendations for how to make God’s realm a more peaceful place.”
Eulogies were also delivered by President Biden, President’s Carter’s grandsons, Jason and Joshua Carter, President Gerald Ford’s son, Steven, Vice President Mondale’s son, Ted, and the Rev. Andrew Young.

Following his service to President Carter, Ambassador Eizenstat served under 4 other US Presidents, as Deputy Secretary of the Treasury, Under Secretary of State, Ambassador to the European Union, Chief Delegate to the Kyoto Climate Conference, Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, and Chairman of the US Holocaust Memorial Council.
During 2024, AIAC sponsored and arranged a series of eight lectures, luncheons, and dinners in the US and UK featuring Ambassador Eizenstat. These events were held at Harvard Law School’s Project on Negotiation, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Columbia University School of Professional Studies, Georgetown University School of Foreign Service, Economic Club of New York, Brandeis University, The Luncheon Society, and Walbrook Club of London.
AIAC Chairman L. M. Levie is a Peacekeeper of the Carter Center, a Member of the Philanthropists for Peace of the International Crisis Group, and a Patron of the Appeal of the Nobel Peace Laureates Foundation Inc.
Mr. Levie commented, “Ambassador Eizenstat’s eulogy clearly recounted the all-too-often overlooked and underappreciated accomplishments of President Carter while in office. However, his post-presidential accomplishments, while widely lauded, may also have been substantially underestimated in their scope and impact. For example, The Carter Center’s eforts in eradicating Guinea Worm disease saved more than 84 million lives during the period from 2000 to the present date, which makes it the most successful public health program in history. The Center’s programs have also helped prevent over 60 million cases of River Blindness. We are therefore profoundly honored to be a supporter of the Carter Center, which continues to carry out Jimmy Carter’s worthy mission of global peace and health.”
Mr. Levie presented to Ambassador Eizenstat and to the Board of Trustees of the Carter Center the following poetic tribute honoring President Carter:
About President Jimmy Carter
Jimmy Carter (James Earl Carter Jr.) was the 39th President of the United States, serving from January 20, 1977, to January 20, 1981. Born on October 1, 1924, in Plains, Georgia, President Carter grew up on a peanut farm, an experience that shaped his values of hard work, faith, and community service. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1946 and served as a naval officer, specializing in submarines, before returning to Georgia to manage his family's agricultural business after his father's death.
President Carter entered politics in the early 1960s, first serving on the Sumter County Board of Education and then in the Georgia State Senate from 1963 to 1967. In 1971, he became the 76th Governor of Georgia, where he championed desegregation, government reform, and modernization of the state’s institutions. His tenure as governor gained national attention for his progressive stances on civil rights and environmental issues.
In 1976, President Carter, as a relatively unknown figure, won the Democratic nomination and went on to defeat incumbent Gerald Ford in the presidential election. His administration focused on human rights, energy policy, and peacebuilding. He brokered the historic Camp David Accords between Egypt and Israel in 1978, a cornerstone of his foreign policy legacy. Domestically, his presidency faced challenges such as high inflation, energy crises, and the Iran Hostage Crisis, which overshadowed many of his achievements.
After leaving office, President Carter transformed his post-presidency into one of the most impactful in history. In 1982, he founded the Carter Center, an organization dedicated to advancing peace, democracy, and health worldwide. The center has been instrumental in eradicating diseases like Guinea worm disease, monitoring elections globally, and promoting human rights.
President Carter’s humanitarian efforts earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002, recognizing his decades-long commitment to peace and social justice. He is also an accomplished author, having written numerous books on topics ranging from his presidency to faith and poetry.
President Carter was married to Rosalynn Carter, his lifelong partner in both public service and personal life. They are survived by have four children. President Carter remains a symbol of integrity, humility, and dedication to the betterment of humanity.
